Its more than just preventing accidents; it's about building trust with parents, nurturing a sense of security for our little adventurers, and laying the foundation for a positive and joyful physical activity experience.

Our Safety Protocols
Camp PLAY and All of Its Staff Strictly Uphold the Highest Standards Of Child Safety!
We Follow the Kindergarten/Primary Grades Safety Guidelines for Movement Activities, as Outlines by Ontario's Physical Activity Safety Standards in Education as well as some guildelines of our own!

1. Equipment

All equipment is reviewed daily to determine if it is safe for use. Campers are encouraged to report equipment problems to the counsellors.

All equipment is size, weight and age appropriate for the skill and ability level of the campers

All balls are properly inflated

No homemade equipment is in use
2. Clothing/Footwear/Jewelry​
-
All children must be wearing appropriate, outdoor clothing. All children must be wearing appropriate, outdoor running shoes that are well tied.

When long hair poses a safety risk, it must be put up
-
Jewelry is not recommended to be worn during the camp
-
Students may not wear potential strangulation items while playing, like helmets or backpacks
3. PLAY Area/Facilities​

All indoor and outdoor PLAY environments are reviewed daily to determine if they are safe to use

Playing surfaces and surrounding areas are free of all obstacles and provide safe footing and traction

Ground cover at all PLAY environments are present and inspected prior to every use and are free of debris and hazardous materials

Uneven surfaces are identified, and clearly designated boundary lines are away from hazards using visual markers

Campers always receive safety instructions before every activity they partake in

When the weather is too hot to be outside, campers will be brought into the community center, and campers are always, no matter the weather, provided with plenty of water

When the weather is too rainy, or there is thunder and lightning, we go into the community center immediately
4. Supervision​

All Activities are supervised

Constant supervision is given

The level of supervision is be equal to the inherent risk of the activity. The level of risk is related to the number of participants, the skill level of the participants, type of equipment being used and environmental conditions
5. First Aid​
-
A fully stocked first aid kit is readily accessible at all times

A working phone is readily accessible at all times
6. Staff
-
All staff are trained in every sports' instruction and safety protocols.

Staff are continuously reminded of protection policies and procedures, and emergency action plan

All staff require a police background check

The head counsellor is certified in first aid and CPR
7. Emergency Action Plan

Emergency routes are clearly defined

Route drills into the community center are conducted

Emergency contact information is readily available at all times
8. Special Rules/Instructions

We will be aware of campers whose medical condition may affect their participation
-
Campers do not participate in activities until they have received information on concussion prevention, rules, and safe play
-
Communication with parents/guardians is as transparent and constant and they wish
-
Activities are appropriate for the participants age, ability level, language, experience, and group size
-
Activities are based on skills that are taught

Skills are taught in proper progression

Campers are given a proper warm-up and cool-down

While moving campers are never asked to close their eyes

Backward-running races are not permitted
-
Students are instructed on how to move safely in personal and general space

We set rules and provide practice in stopping/starting, looking where you are going, and using equipment safely

When campers display hesitations to participate, counsellors find out the reason, and modify the activity as needed

Water replacement is always accessible for campers

Sunscreen is reapplied during every snack break and lunch

Bathroom breaks are taken regularly, as well as upon request

Camp PLAY follows the Rule Of 2, meaning that a camper or group of campers is never alone with a single counsellor

Prior to park use, counsellors inform campers of the rules of acceptable behavior and expectations for safe play on the playground. Rules are strictly enforced
-
food and allergy management is strictly enforced, and all lunches are prepared separately
